A Study of Correlation between Hand¡¯s Strength and Impedance in Stroke Patients
Yoo Chan-Uk

Abstract
Objective : In this study, the correlation between hand¡¯s strength and bioelectrical impedance in stroke patients was examined using data collected from 26 stroke patients.

Methods : This study was made with data collected from 26 patients diagnosed with stroke from October 2016 to April 2017: using the MultiScan 5000, bio-electrical impedance was measured, and using the dynamometer and pinch gage, hand¡¯s strength (hand¡¯s grip strength and finger¡¯s strength) was measured.

Results : In the analysis of correlation between hand¡¯s strength and impedance, for investigating correlations between impedance and hand¡¯s grip strength, it was shown that there was a significant correlation between hand¡¯s strength and bio impedance(p<.05).

Conclusion : From results of this study, it was possible to conclude that there was a significant correlation between hand¡¯s strength and impedance in stroke patients, and suggest that this study could be a useful means to measure various conditions of stroke patients receiving rehabilitation in the quantitative manner. In the future, it would be necessary to explore how to use the impedance analysis in addressing other patient groups, other body domains, or rehabilitation effects.
